Fido and Fireworks: How CBD Can Help Your Dog Survive the Fourth of July

Rudy Delarenta

Many people use CBD for things like pain, anxiety and skin concerns, now people are using it help with anxiety in their pets. Any day can be a bad day for a dog left alone or in a car while their owner is busy--but by far the most anxious time of year for nervous pups is the Fourth of July.

Fireworks can be both triggering and stressful for anxious dogs because the sudden loud sounds can release adrenaline and stress hormones that tell their instincts to run. The biggest problem is how many dogs run away and go missing over the Fourth of July weekend.

A 2017 study at Cornell University showed effective use of CBD on dogs with arthritis, it also helped boost a general sense of well being in the dogs. So, it seems most vets agree its safe to give CBD to pets. And it also seems a good bet that it will help calm nerves during the fireworks around the Fourth.

But don't just pull out your daily dosage of CBD for Fido. It's important to use a specially formulated blend -- one made for pets like Swissx makes.

By the way: common sense advice also says keep your dog safe and indoors on the Fourth!
